On February 24, 2017, Khon Kaen University held a scholarship awarding ceremony for the SMBC Global Foundation Scholarship Program 2016. Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Collaboration, presided over the ceremony together with representatives from related faculties and personnel from the International Relations Division. They welcomed Mr. Akihide Anazawa, General Manager of Risk Management and Business Control Department of Bangkok, Mr. Atthaphon Niramonrat, Human Resources Department Unit Manager, and Mr. Hiroyoshi Korosue, Country Head and General Manager, SMBC Bangkok branch. They all were the representatives from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC).
The scholarships are given to KKU students who are studying in the undergraduate programs in the faculties which have curriculums related to Japanese language and culture, business administration, trade, marketing and law. Moreover, the candidates must have appropriate qualifications and have demonstrated to be hard working in their studies. These students should also have the potentiality in self development towards becoming leaders in their own fields of studies and in their future work for the development of Thailand.
In the 2016/2017 academic year, the SMBC Scholarship Awarding Committee granted 6 scholarships to KKU student recipients from the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Law. Each received 1,150 US dollars or an amount of 40,000 Baht per person. The total amount of the scholarships was 240,000 Baht.
