On March 25-26, 2017, the International Relations Division, Khon Kaen University organized a Cultural Trip Program 2017 for international students who are studying at Khon Kaen University in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs at different faculties.  Fifty international students from 13 countries: USA, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Eritrea, Bhutan, Timor-Leste, South Sudan, and Sri Lanka joined the trip. The aim of the trip was to open an opportunity for international students to learn about Thai culture prevalent in neighboring provinces around Khon Kaen, to understand as well as experience the ways of life in the Thai rural areas and societies, and also to promote enduring relationships between the international students and the KKU staff.

This year, IRD staff and students went to Chiang Khan District in Loei Province to learn about regional history, ways of life, and culture of Tai Dam people in Tai Dam Cultural Village, which was said to be over 100 years old. The international students also did many activities during the trip including floating of Pha Sad Loi Kror, cultural performance, and food offering. Moreover, these students also learned about natural health care by alternative medicines and herbal inhaler production at Por Piang Por Plern Holistic Health Care Center. The students were very impressed by the cultural program and the IRD staff, and they hope to join the culture trip program again next year if they get a chance.
