On March 30-31, 2017, the Department of International Affairs conducted a seminar trip for the International Affairs Committee to Songkla province. The trip was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Collaboration. There were 32 participants including administrators from various faculties whose work relates to international affairs and the personnel of the International Relations Division.
On March 30, 2017, the Department of International Affairs conducted a seminar on “GMS Integration”. The participants had the honor of having Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, the Executive Director of Mekong Institute (MI) as the speaker in this seminar. For an overview, the speaker talked about possible collaborative frameworks in Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS), working towards becoming an economy hub in GMS and for KKU it is becoming necessary to re-think about strengths and weaknesses of the university and focus on futuristic sustainable commercial strategy in order to respond to the demands of GMS. After the seminar, the International Affairs Committee Meeting 2017 was run by Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm.
On March 31, 2017, the International Affairs Committee visited Prince of Songkla University (PSU) to understand and gain more knowledge regarding management of international affairs, possible strategies for creating collaborative network with overseas institutions, and strategies that assist them to recruit an increasing number of international students from overseas to study at PSU. Moreover, PSU emphasized on international affairs and public relations focusing on commercial strategy and collaborations with nearby institutions such as Malaysia and Indonesia because PSU has many branches in Songkla, Pattani, Phuket, Trung, and Surat Thani. Also, PSU campuses are established in the good locations which are suitable for tourism. Importantly, another plus point of PSU was that the immigration officers visited PSU every month for giving advises and assisting them with information about immigration documentation of international staff and student.
