On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nawarat Wara-aswapati Charoen, Vice President for International Relations Affairs welcomed Dr. Georg Verweyen, Director of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Thailand on the occasion of his visit to Khon Kaen University to discuss about academic collaborations and possibilities to promote German scholarships for KKU staff and students. Dr. George Verweyen also gave a presentation on the topic “Study and Research in Germany” to lecturers, staff, and students at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, KKU. In the meeting, KKU proposed to organize a special workshop given by speakers from DAAD for KKU lecturers and researchers to prepare their readiness in applying for German scholarships.
“The DAAD has a long tradition of uniting people and academia. Founded in Heidelberg in 1925 on the initiative of a single student, the DAAD has since become one of the most important funding organizations worldwide for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. The DAAD is a registered members association made up of German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Our activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships. The DAAD supports the internationalization of German universities, promotes German studies and the German language abroad, provide developing countries with best practices in establishing universities and advises decision makers in the area of cultural, educational and developmental policy” (DAAD, 2017).
